Youth Design Center Has Been Awarded $45,000 From The New York Urban League
[BROOKLYN, New York] – March 31st, 2023 - New York Urban League has awarded Youth Design Center a Communities of Color Nonprofit Stabilization Fund Allocation Award of $45,000 to support capacity-building efforts in the area of Strategy & Organizational Development.
This grant comes at a critical time as Youth Design Center enters its tenth year as an organization and begins to grow its local impact in East Brooklyn while laying the foundation to expand its geographical reach within New York City and other under-resourced Black and Brown communities across the nation. In addition, the grant will allow Youth Design Center to maximize its staff efficiency and strategic plans to support the expansion of its flagship Creative Apprenticeship Program. Finally, it will help to meet the demands of increased participant enrollment and the growth of CAP through its course offerings which allows YDC to service more youth.
"Capacity building grants are critical to an organization's growth and expansion plans," said Quardean Lewis-Allen, Founder and Executive Director of Youth Design Center. "This allocation will allow us to strategically plan for the future while onboarding new staff and experts to support our mission in providing youth with entry into STEAM professions and the design industry at large."
The Communities of Color Nonprofit Stabilization Fund aims to provide capacity-building support to Black, Latino, and Asian-led community-based organizations (CBOs) throughout New York City's five boroughs. It is a joint partnership between the Hispanic Federation (HF), Coalition for Asian American Children and Families (CACF), New York Urban League (NYUL), and Asian American Federation (AAF), established in 2014. So far, the initiative has supported 464 capacity-building projects for nonprofit organizations to date.
