What is CAP (the Creative Apprenticeship Program)?
The Creative Apprenticeship Program is a training program designed to create a pathway to STEAM professions for youth in East Brooklyn. This is a FREE program for 14 to 24yr olds. CAP is broken into two distinct phases.
Phase one is the foundational training where participants are introduced to the basics of their chosen studio by learning key vocabulary, concepts, software and equipment.
Phase two of CAP is a community benefits project. Participants pick a social issue that’s important to them and create a solution using skills acquired in their studio.
Why should I sign up for CAP?
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
Is this program FREE? Does it come with a stipend?
This program is 100% free to join. If you have at least 80% attendance then you can leave this program with a $600 stipend.
How many days/hours a week is CAP?
This program runs 3x a week for 10 weeks. Each session is 3 hours long.
What will I learn in the 3D design studio?
This year participants will be learning how to create 3D renderings using 2020 CAD as well as creating designs using the Adobe Creative Suite. They will be learning about architecture, spatial and lighting design. Participants will understand how something can go from an idea to a rendering to fabrication and then creating a youth led community benefits project.
Is this in-person or virtual?
For the safety of participants, we will be virtual for Fall 2020.
What if I don’t have a computer? Or the software?
YDC has the capacity to lend out loaner computers to participants who do not have access to a laptop. All software that will be used has been covered by YDC at no expense to you.
