\Renewable Rikers
In July 2021, the Youth Design Center (YDC) collaborated with Renewable Rikers to develop a website aimed at informing and engaging the public about the initiative to transform Rikers Island from a correctional facility into a hub for green infrastructure.
The challenge was to design a multi-page site that not only attracted visitors but also effectively communicated the mission and objectives of Renewable Rikers. YDC addressed this by creating a website inspired by bio-mimicry design principles, striking a balance between professionalism and environmental advocacy. This design approach enhanced the organization's credibility and increased its web visibility.
This collaboration underscores YDC's commitment to leveraging design for social and environmental justice, providing Renewable Rikers with a digital platform to amplify their cause and engage the community effectively.
Challenge
Design a website that attracted people and informed them of the cause.
The Solution
A multi-page site that highlights their work, increases their credibility, and web visibility. The art direction was inspired by bio-mimicry design. A perfect mix of professional and elemental for an environmental/social justice non-profit.
